Four types of work
There are thousands of position names and hundreds of industries. In the end, there are only four types of work in my eyes. Regardless of what you are doing, let’s call it “work” for a moment. It can be your full-time work, part-time efforts, your hobbies, your role in your family or community, or all of them. There are four different types of any work: job, career, passion, and calling.
A job is where you spend your time to do the work based on the requirements. You get paid for what you are asked to do. Most of us needed a job to pay for our daily expenses. It can be a temporary job for you to make a transition such as your college part-time job to pay for your tuition. It can be a job you work at for decades. There is nothing wrong with it.
A career is where you think there is a future for you besides the job function. You have a short -term and long-term development goal that you look forward to. You can work as a financial analyst at a job when you set your eyes as a CFO or CEO on your long-term goal for your career.
A passion is something you never feel tired of doing, and you can do that without getting paid. A lot of volunteers devote their precious time because that’s something they are truly passionate about. It can be providing food to people who are in need, helping children with education, advocating for environmental protection, or fighting for human rights.
A calling is what you feel God is calling you to do speaking as a Christian myself. You can also think of it as a life purpose. That’s what your life is for, and why you are even here in this world.
It is an amazing feeling that if your job is also your career where you feel what you are doing is aligned with passion and calling. However, you can always make it enjoyable no matter it’s a job, a career, a passion, or a calling for you. Make your days count instead of counting days. Feeling stuck and not sure how to get there, I am here to here. Please book a call with me.
